A documentary centered on a young Frenchman who convinces a grieving Texas family that he is their 16-year-old son who went missing for 3 years. The Imposter is a 2012 documentary film about the 1997 case of Frédéric Bourdin,The Imposter (2012)  who impersonated a boy who had disappeared in 1994, claiming to have been kidnapped for sexual abuse and transported from the boy's home in Texas to Spain. His impersonation fooled several authorities and even many of the boy's family members,The Imposter (2012)  even though he was seven years older than the missing boy, had brown eyes and dark hair (rather than the boy's blue eyes and blond hair).The Imposter (2012)  The impersonation was discovered only by a private investigator – who brought his own misguided hypothesis into the story.

I hope that the director at least set out to shed light on this case and answer questions as to how it could happen.The Imposter (2012)  Sadly, the movie falls short in these two key areas.The Imposter (2012)  Instead we are treated to a film where the director mocks the victim's families, promotes the perpetrator and ultimately trivializes the disappearance of a 13 year old boy. Since the director has nothing to add,The Imposter (2012)  all we are left with are tasteless attempts at humor and an ill-fitting Wes Anderson soundtrack. I understand the need to recoup costs when making a documentary, but sometimes you just hit a dead end and it should be treated as such.The Imposter (2012) movie like
